Annual Ontario Universities’ Fair A Hit

By: Andrew Oliveira (Grade 10)

A Bright Opportunity For High School Students To Explore Their Future Options of Education

It is that time of year graduating Gryphons:   application season to post secondary programs. The 2019 Ontario Universities’ Fair helps thousands of post secondary bound students discover their future in the academic world. The OUF took place over the weekend of September 27-29th. Hosted at the Toronto Convention Centre located at 222 Bremner Blvd, it beheld twenty-one universities and is considered to be Canada’s largest educational fair.

Over the course of the weekend, 130,000 students and their parents explored his or her future possibilities. The OUF’s philosophy is to engage students with their program of interest, hence its free admission. The twenty-one university kiosks present ranged from Lakehead University in the north down to University of Windsor in the south.

Students were encouraged to attend for other reasons as well...find out about admission requirements and student life on campus. They asked questions to current students, professors, alumni and school representatives. They could also attend information sessions on each university to get a better understanding of what university campus they should visit.

The OUF passport was recently introduced to the fair in the last few years. The passport enabled students to provide some personal information (name, graduating year and email address) once, instead of numerous times. Students can scan their barcode at any university kiosk, thereby allowing universities of his or her choice to email information on campus tours, open houses, scholarships and awards, athletics, and university news.

For future university students, it is a positive initial exposure to what awaits them next school year.
