Everybody Get Up! It's Time to Cham Now!

The Vivacious Dance Crew Strikes a Pose

The most relentless, passionate, and full of life have come together to form the Vivacious Dance Crew, also known as VDC, Chaminade College School’s very own dance team. These dancers have spent most of their time practicing and dancing their hearts out for competitions, and take the trophy back to Chaminade.

The Vivacious Dance Crew has been dancing their hearts out dating back as far as 2011. They have been spotted in the common area, practicing for many hours after school, constantly pushing themselves to perfect moves, nail timings, and strive to work harder than they have ever before, day after day.

“We have been practicing almost every evening after school, trying to clean up our moves, get low, build up the stamina, bring the facials and the excitement in hopes of bringing back the trophy back to Chaminade,”  Ms. Achong, the coach and leader of the Vivacious Dance Crew since the club’s launch, stated when asked about what she and the Vivacious Dance Crew have been striving to do to win their next competition. When asked about the “plan of attack”, Ms. Achong simply stated, “Well, we’re gonna entertain the crowd’s faces off! That’s what we try to do, we try to bring that, try to entertain the crowd.”  That same passion and fire are still burning bright within their coach, the same as when the Vivacious Dance Crew pulled off their first victory back in 2011 at Notre Dame’s annual dance competition named “Dance Off”, like coal in an ever-burning furnace that does not seem to give out.

The crew cannot thank enough their coach and mentor Ms. Achong and their choreographer, Ms. Petrucci. “She started off as a student teacher and asked to volunteer to help out the team, I said yes, and she has been choreographing our moves for the last few years, and she’s definitely the reason for our success.” She has been working with the dance crew alongside Ms. Achong and has been the inspiration, teacher, coach, and mastermind behind the dance crew, and they cannot thank her enough for her continued support towards their success.

“Me and Nicholas over here, have been working extremely hard, lots of intensity, lots of work being done to win these competitions,” said dance crew member Absolom DeVera, “All of us, we put 100% effort into everything that we do, we’ll work harder than we did before, every day is a new day and that new day, we work harder every time. Remember the corrections, not the mistakes.”

The Vivacious Dance Crew definitely shows this, as they placed third overall at Archbishop Romero’s dance competition in that region, and while watching them practice after school, in that common room, everyone can see the work and effort put into every move, every look, and the Vivacious Dance Crew is extremely excited for competitions to come.

Ms. Achong had this to say about her crew, “All of the students are very hard working, and I feel privileged and I feel biased that I get the best students on the dance team to work with, but especially to the graduating students Franco, and Michael, who have been such a tremendous help and Gerardo who has also been a tremendous help and very hard working, and to Neil and John, who have been with the team since grade 9 and so I’m going to miss all five of them when they leave.”
