A Wonderful Day at Wonderland Music Festival

By: Patrick Carey (Grade 10)

The Senior Band Performed Wonderfully Whilst Enjoying The Overall Visit To Canada's Wonderland

On the morning of Wednesday, May 29, the Chaminade Senior Band went to Canada’s Wonderland to perform a couple of songs in one of the most anticipated events of the year.

It was predicted to be a rainy day on May 29th, but despite the weather reports, Senior Band students were excited and prepared to play in their annual concert. Many students were returning members, but some students in grade 11 and even some junior students had just joined the band. When arriving at Wonderland, there seemed to be a little bit of a drizzle. Students had no worries that rain or bad weather would be a factor to their playing.

A few hours after arriving, students were ready to play at their scheduled performance at 1:30. It was a great way to test the band’s collaboration, skills, and techniques. A judge sat across from the stage, ready to discuss how the band played. The band had 3 songs prepared: “Music from The Incredibles”, “Coldplay Classics”, and “Crazy Train”. Their most impressive pieces over the year had to be “Coldplay Classics” and “Music from The Incredibles”. Students in the band were not nervous at all, as some students including Quang Vo, Michael Lima, Joseph Rossi, Patryck Yee, Marcos De Leon, and Patrick Carey were on rides at Wonderland just minutes before performing.

After playing, the students were critiqued by the judges. Their performances were excellent. There were little to no mistakes made by the band, and their playing ability shocked the crowd of other schools. The judge said that “They really expressed, musically, the elements and moods of the events taking place in those songs”. The Chaminade Senior Band did have a very eventful time at Wonderland Music Festival, as they presented their collaboration, skill, and ability to work despite weather conditions. How will the Senior Band perform next year when they revisit the annual Wonderland Festival?
